BRE guidelines state that at least half of an open space must have at least two hours of sunlight each day. In order to ensure you are keeping in line with the guidelines, you will need to complete an overshadowing report.
An overshadowing report is also required to study the effect of various massing strategies within a development, as well as optimising the positioning of solar panels.
How does an overshadowing report work?
By using models of both the existing and proposed buildings, we can investigate what shade is cast by using the Suncast application. It works by monitoring the shading effect in half hourly intervals, and also provides us with the chance to advise you on maximum massing options to reduce any potential impact.
